Pete's Vision

Accomplishments

In my four years serving as mayor, I’ve worked every single day to ensure that Jackson has a government that serves all of its citizens well. Under my leadership, the council has accomplished many things our town can be proud of.

  • We passed a non-discrimination ordinance, tenant protections, and a ban on single-use plastic bags
  • We rezoned most of the town to allow for more workforce housing, and required commercial developers to provide housing for the jobs they create
  • We completed a complex update to the Snow King Resort District, paving the way for a gondola and requiring new development to provide housing for their employees
  • During my term, the community has created 171 units of deed restricted housing for our workforce, many of those funded by the Town Council, with 281 more in development
  • We changed zoning to incentivize the private development of workforce housing, including nearly 100 apartment units at the Sagebrush development that are currently under construction
  • We passed a NetZero 2030 Climate resolution so that we can lead the way on preventing catastrophic climate change by eliminating our net carbon emissions by 2030
  • We created a cross town bike lane on Snow King Avenue to help our residents and visitors get around town safely without adding to traffic
  • Last but not least, we acted decisively to lead the state in our response to the Covid-19 pandemic, helping to keep our residents safe and quickly adjusting our budgets to respond to the revenue shortfalls

Plans

If elected to council, I will continue to act decisively to ensure a fair and competent government that responds to the needs of every resident.

  • I’ll continue to support housing for our workforce instead of second homes for the wealthy
  • I’ll keep working to help our residents reduce and avoid traffic by providing ways to move around our community without having to drive
  • I’ll keep working to ensure the most vulnerable members of our community have access to the services they need to flourish
  • I’ll continue to push our community to build on its conservation legacy by becoming a world leader in climate sustainability, so that we can continue to protect our ecosystem
  • I believe in the importance of diversity, equity and inclusivity in our community – I want all of our residents to share in the benefits of living in a community where everyone is valued, treated with respect and encouraged to reach their full potential. I’ll keep making decisions with this as a priority – our government and business communities are important because they are here to serve the needs of our residents, and we can never forget that
